Described by The Epoch Times as “An expert flutist [with] elegant, impressive breath control,” Felipe Tristan came to New York in 2011 after being accepted for the prestigious Kenan Fellowship at Lincoln Center Education. Recently, he made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut in the season finale of Redes USA. Felipe is Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra of the Americas and Assistant Conductor of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra. He made his conducting debut in 2009 with the Filarmónica Juvenil de Nuevo León. Since then, he has conducted ensembles in New York, Chicago, San Diego, and New Orleans – in performance and workshops – including the Astoria Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra of Brooklyn, The Cecilia Chorus of New York, and the Orquesta Nacional de Flautas de México. Felipe is the Assistant Director of Education for the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, and a teaching artist for various organizations in NYC.
