Rowan Harvey
















Rowan is a versatile and accomplished violinist and educator based in New York City. She has performed as a recitalist and chamber musician in Australia and North America, performing in venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Town Hall and Melbourne Concert Hall in Australia and the Merkin Concert Hall and Weill Recital Hall in New York.

Following early training in the pre-college department at the Sydney Conservatorium, Rowan studied at Indiana University and Michigan State University. She recently graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in violin performance from Stony Brook Unversity.

As an orchestral violinist, Rowan has performed with the Opera Australia Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra and has been a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. She has been second violinist of the Sydney String Quartet and given recitals for the Federated Music Clubs of Australia. Concerto performances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney International Orchestra, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the North Sydney Symphony and the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic among others have been broadcast on ABC –FM and Fine Music FM.

Rowan was awarded the Licentiate of Music with distinction from the Australian Music Examinations Board at the age of 16. Her other achievements include 1st prize in the Gisborne International Music Competition (1996) and the Nescafe Big Break Award. She has been awarded grants from the Australia Council for the Arts, the Queen Elizabeth II Trust, the Ian Potter Foundation, the PPCA Performer’s Trust and the Dame Joan Sutherland Fund.

As an educator Rowan has worked as a Teaching Artist with the Salvation Army’s Phil Ramone Orchestra for Children based in Harlem and for the Children’s Aid Society College Prep Charter School in the Bronx.
