Teaching Artist Fellowship
About the Fellowship
The 2026-27 Harmony Program Teaching Artist Fellowship is a highly selective, year-long engagement for emerging music educators interested in strengthening their teaching skills and expanding their professional networks and opportunities. Teaching Artist Fellows will receive 20+ hours of training from experts in music performance, education, youth development, and psychology. They will also have the exciting opportunity to get up to 40 hours of teaching experience in our classrooms and ensembles, working side-by-side with Harmony Program Teaching Artists. Upon completion of all fellowship requirements, each Teaching Artist Fellow will receive an $1,500 honorarium.
Fellowship Goals
Eligibility & Requirements
Eligible fellowship candidates will meet the following criteria:

Be graduate or undergraduate students in their final year of study in the field of music (performance, education, music therapy, or any music related field) or within two years of graduation.

Passionate in teaching group music classes (instrumental, general music, choir) in school classrooms, with or without prior classroom teaching experience.

Have demonstrated great interest in community outreach/engagement and/or youth development, via coursework, volunteer activities, or employment.

Have strong work ethic, personable demeanor, a willingness to learn, and an enthusiasm for the creative exchange of ideas.

Reside in New York City and pass city and state background checks.

Have plans to remain in New York City through August 2027.
All Teaching Artist Fellows are required to attend and complete the following:
- Fellowship Fall Orientation
- TA/Fellow cohort Fall Orientation & Spring Professional Development Day
- Four Classroom Essentials courses
- Two Curriculum Workshops
- Two Featured Workshops
- Two observations per semester and one evaluation conducted by HP Teaching Artists/Mentors/Staff
- Assist TAs in classroom teaching placements as apprentice Teaching Artists (up to 40 hours)

Application Process

Interested applicants should complete the online application. Applications are considered on a rolling basis. The selection timeline is below:
- Applications close: April 15, 2026
- Application review and interview period: April 1 – May 15, 2026
- Notification of acceptance: May 31, 2026
- Fellowship period: September 2026 – August 2027
All fellows must complete the fellowship during the fellowship period. Upon completion, fellows will receive the agreed honorarium via check/direct deposit. Fellows will also receive invitations to join the Harmony Program Teaching Artist roster for the 2027-28 school year, subject to performance review by the Harmony Program team. Shall a fellow be unable to complete the fellowship requirements, the full honorarium will not be given and the fellow will be withdrawn from the fellowship.
