Our 2024-25 Ensemble Network application is live for Saturday programming during the school year.

Application deadline extended! Submit by August 30, 2024.

First day of rehearsals is September 14, 2024 or September 21, 2024, depending on ensemble placement. See “Schedules & Locations” below for more information.

Bronx (Longwood)

BEGINNER

  • Children’s Choir (ages 7 – 13)
    • Learn the basics of choral singing and experience the joy of making music in a group.
  • Training Ensembles (1+ years of experience)
    • Improve instrumental technique and develop ensemble skills.
  • Preparatory Ensembles (2+ years of experience)
    • Refine instrumental technique, explore new repertoire, strengthen performance skills.

Bronx (Longwood)

INTERMEDIATE

  • String Orchestra (3+ years of experience)
    • Explore diverse musical repertoire and cultivate a deeper understanding of ensemble performance.
  • Preparatory Orchestra (3+ years of experience)
    • Discover the varied instrument voices of a full youth orchestra, rehearsing in sectionals and performing more advanced orchestral repertoire.
  • Junior Youth Orchestra (4+ years of experience)
    • Master advanced instrumental techniques and improve sight-reading abilities to quickly, and accurately, interpret new music. Take on leadership roles within sections, offering guidance and support to less experienced members.

Manhattan (Upper East Side)

ADVANCED

  • Youth Choir (ages 14 – 18)
    • Refine vocal technique, expand musical knowledge, and explore diverse and challenging choral repertoire.
  • Senior Youth Orchestra (5+ years of experience)
    • Delve into the complexities of orchestral literature. Understand composers’ intentions to deliver deeply informed, polished, and emotionally compelling performances. Participate in workshops and master classes with Harmony Program partners, such as The New York Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
  • Jazz Ensemble (5+ years of experience)
    • Develop a high level of technical skill, deep understanding of jazz theory and history, and strong improvisational abilities in this advanced ensemble for winds, brass, and percussion players.

All applicants must submit audition in order to be considered for the Ensemble Network.

OTHER OFFERINGS FOR ADVANCED INSTRUMENTALISTS

This comprehensive program serves select Senior Youth Orchestra members, who wish to pursue music professionally, and provides the following, free of charge:

  • Weekly private lessons, chamber coachings, and music theory classes;
  • Access to workshops and masterclasses through the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center;
  • Access to concerts and mentorship from partner organizations, such as Young Concert Artists, Concert Artists Guild, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, The New York Philharmonic, etc.;
  • Up to $3,000 in summer music camp tuition scholarships;
  • Up to $500 in summer music camp transportation support;
  • Up to $250 in summer music camp application fee assistance.

Limited to 12 string players per year.

The Harmony Program Concerto Competition showcases the talents of instrumental students and provides them with an opportunity to perform a concerto with the Senior Youth Orchestra during the final concert of the season.

The competition is open to current Harmony Program students, free of charge.

All rehearsals take place on Saturdays, from September through May.

Preparatory Orchestra and Senior Youth Orchestra start on September 14; all other ensembles start on September 21.

The Bronx (Lehman College)

  • Children’s Choir: 10:00am – 11:30am
  • Preparatory String Ensemble: 10:00am – 11:30am


Brooklyn (Brooklyn College)

  • Children’s Choir: 10:00am – 11:30am
  • Preparatory String Ensemble: 10:00am – 11:30am


Manhattan (location determined by ensemble placement)

  • Preparatory Orchestra: 9:30am – 11:30am (New York Society of Ethical Culture Building)
  • Senior Youth Orchestra: 11:45am – 1:45pm (New York Society of Ethical Culture Building)
  • Children’s Choir: 12:00pm – 1:30pm (St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church)
  • Youth Choir: 2:00pm – 4:00pm (St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church)
  • Preparatory String Ensemble: 2:30pm – 4:00pm (St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church)


Queens (Queens College)

  • Percussion Ensemble: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Children’s Choir: 3:00pm – 4:30pm
  • Preparatory String Ensemble: 4:30pm – 6:00pm
